Playing Better,
For The Planet
Every Hextasy product you hold is printed using plant-based bioplastic — a thoughtful choice for your home, your family, and the environment.

We print with PLA — a corn-derived bioplastic, not petroleum.
Zero Production Waste
All print waste goes back to our manufacturer for recycling.
Home-Friendly Choice
PLA is preferred over ABS for products handled daily at home.
We Print in PLA —
Here's Why That Matters
PLA (Polylactic Acid) is a bioplastic derived from plant-based sources like corn starch. Unlike ABS, which is made from petroleum, PLA starts from renewable feedstocks.
- Plant-derived, not oil-derived — PLA is made from corn or sugarcane, not a petroleum refinery.
- No styrene emissions during printing — ABS printing is associated with styrene, a concerning volatile organic compound. PLA does not emit styrene, making it a preferred material for indoor hobby and family environments.*
- Better for everyday handling — We choose PLA because it's a more comfortable material choice for products handled regularly at home by adults and children alike.
- Considered pigments — We use colorant systems selected for PLA, avoiding those associated with conventional petroleum-plastic manufacturing.
⚠️ Honest note: PLA requires industrial composting conditions to break down fully — it will not degrade quickly in a landfill. We will never overstate its environmental benefits.
* Based on peer-reviewed 3D printing emissions studies (2016–2023) comparing ABS and PLA ultrafine particle and VOC emissions.
Production Waste?
We Send It Back.
3D printing generates waste — failed prints, support structures, test pieces. At Hextasy, none of that goes to landfill.
Every gram of PLA waste from our production facility is collected, sorted by material type and color, and returned to our filament manufacturer for recycling. This is our closed-loop commitment.
Failed prints and support waste are collected in dedicated segregated bins — never mixed with general waste.
Waste is sorted by material type and color before batching for return.
Batches are sent back to our filament supplier/recycler on a regular schedule.
We operate made-to-order — every print is triggered by a real customer order, so we never overproduce inventory.
PLA vs. ABS — Why We Chose Differently
Most low-cost 3D printed products use ABS because it's cheap and durable. We made a different choice.
| Property | ABS (conventional) | PLA (what we use) |
|---|---|---|
| Raw material source | Petroleum-based | Plant-based (corn/sugarcane) |
| Printing VOC concern | Emits styrene (concerning VOC) | Does not emit styrene |
| Printing odour | Strong chemical smell | Mild, often faint sweet smell |
| Suitable for indoor hobby use | Needs strong ventilation | Preferred for indoor use |
| Feedstock renewability | Non-renewable | Renewable feedstock |
